I'D GIVE MY LEFT LEG, IF I COULD...

Use my left leg! Have my first injury since I started my healthy lifestyle. I had some pain after a workout on Jan 3rd and then worked out again on the 4th and thought things were gonna be OK...However I woke up on the 5th to see my left ankle swollen up to the size of a grapefruit(ironically a nice whole food...just not great for the ankle)! Went to the Dr. got Xrays and a CT scan(can't do MRI's with the defib) and they told me I have done damage to the tendons in the ankle. See an Ortho specialist next Monday the 17th to see exactly what he thinks and where we go from here. Hoping for the best and that I can resume some work outs ASAP! If not Mike and I are gonna put together a plan on the bike and upper body stuff that I will hopefully be able to do while I heal.

The ONE good thing that comes out of an injury is that it has forced me to get back to paying soooooooo much attention to my nutrition. I stunk over the holidays...not like rotten shoe stink...more of a burnt toast stink. It wasn't horrible, but it certainly wasn't what I was hoping for and I bounced up about 6 POUNDS OVER THE HOLIDAYS! Good news is that I'm back on track and I am determined that I HAVE TO HIT THE 100 POUNDS LOST this next week. I am sitting at 99 pounds gone once again. That has been a booger of a goal for me to reach but I'm gonna do it!!!!

Normally I would say I should reach the over 100 pounds lost mark this week. However here is the Mike Nilson advice of the month for ya :)
Everytime we say that we SHOULD do something it means that there is about a 0% chance it will get done! LETS JUST SAY THAT I HAVE TO DO IT! Should=open door for failure HAVE TO=Decision. Decision to do somethng means that you have ruled out all other options. I have decided that I HAVE TO hit my goal of over 100 pounds lost this week!

Wish me luck with the foot and the GOAL! I will let ya know next week!

Also anyone that is working on weight loss and getting healthy in 2011 let me know. Would love to chat with you anytime! We're all in this thing together!

  1. that SOUNDS like a Mike Nilson saying! Monte sent me on over here (via the Grapevine) and I'm thrilled for you, despite the holiday and ankle set back. way to go...you'll get that 100, I've no doubt! There is a lot of upper body you can do to keep on track while you let that ankle heal...but trust me, you want to let it heal! (this is the girl who wrapped her 'sprained' ankle to run a 12 mile run and caused an avulsion fracture back in the day when I was training for the Boston Marathon...needless to say, I did not run it!) Stay the course, but get creative so that it can heal...Mike is awesome at coming up with alternative work outs so you'll do great!

    Keep it up!

  2. Kevin, when I saw you at the food drive I was inspired by you to get back on track and lose that 90lbs I lost a few years ago and then gained back! I wish you all the best, and WAY TO GO my friend! Matt.

  3. P.S. I just realized it has been 12 YEARS since I have been out in public without a vest on.

  4. You are an inspiration to us all, as usual. I have been thinking about doing the diet and weight loss thing, but can't seem to get motivated. Like you said, I believe I said "should". Perhaps I should change that. Problem is, there's so much else going on right now, not sure how much success I would have. But I need to, for sure. Keep up the great work!!! You can hit that 100 pound mark!!
